Once you arrive in Guatemala you will begin your journey by being taken to the hotel of your choice to recuperate and regroup before your trip to Rio Dulce. The following morning you will be taken on a scenic drive through Guatemala's mountainous region and dropping down to the desert climate full of cactus, meandering rivers and flowers before we continue on to a lower elevation into the lush tropical region of our beautiful Rio Dulce.

On the Travel Information page there is information on various hotels we recommend in Guatemala City to choose from. When your adventure here is over, you will be driven to historical Antigua to tour and spend the night. The following morning you will be driven to the airport in Guatemala City for your return flight.

Once you arrive on the river we have two choices for accommodations. Banana Palms resort and one we affectionately call Shanty Town

    Shanty Town

This charming location was built in the rustic style of the area. Truly giving you the feeling of being part of the tropical lifestyle. You have the option of one of the bungalows built over the water on stilts or a charming bungalow on the hill a few steps from the water.

Shanty Town is for those who truly desire a return to nature and escape the grind of the modern world. At this location you will not be distracted by TV or internet. However, (if you must) both are within reach. And although this facility does not have a swimming pool, you are literally three steps from the clean waters of Lake Izabal (great for an evening skinny dip!). The bungalows accommodate different size groups from two to six people. Each equipped with kitchen, living room and private bath. You have a choice of three bungalows to best serve your needs.

The first bungalow we will describe is up on the hill with one bedroom, one double bed along with kitchen, bath and living area. The bungalow on the water with the natural varnish look sleeps up to four in two bedrooms again with the same facilities. The last bungalo is the white house on the water sleeps six in three bedrooms, ditto on the facilities.
